NORTHERN LINES

Being a Mexican woman who has been living in Norway for the last 12 years, I think my own identity has evolved; I have grown to understand that I can be me in many places, and that while a geographical location is extremely important, it us our human nature that brings us all together.

For this artwork I wanted to reflect on the landscapes that have surrounded me during my lifetime; the mountains of the North of México, and the mountains of the West coast of Norway.

Since I was little, I felt safe close to the mountains, always protected by their greatness and their vast richness, and always amazed by their colors, textures, smells and wild life.

While different, the Mexican and Norwegian mountains have merged together in my senses and created a new home for my soul. This home is built with the wood of the Mezquite and Pecan trees from the North of México, and the Ash and Downy birch from Norway, all held together by the memories, challenges, laughter and tears of my existence.

This is a mixed-media embroidered piece, made with thread, diverse fibers, yarns, glass beads and sequins.

This artwork was exhibited at the 2nd Art Biennale in Tarnów, Poland; hosted by Centrum Sztuki Mościce, and you can read more about my participation on this event (including more pictures) on my blog.
