ANALOG MEMORIES (2023)
ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHIES TAKEN WITH A FUJI DL-300 CAMERA
For me, analog photographies have always been a way to materialize our memories. I remember going with my mother to the local Kodak store to develop our photographies and waiting an hour for them to be ready, many times she would take random photos at the end just to finish the roll before it was ready to be delivered to the clerk.
With analog cameras they had to be more toughtful, taking photographies was something that had to be a bit more planned because of the limited amount of film available, nowadays we can store thousands of pictures on our phones, many which we will never care to see again, to value anymore.
When my mother passed away, the whole process of cleaning the house and protecting our things was very difficult; some things got stolen, others had to be cheaply sold and other ones just got lost during the commotion, including a box with 90% of my childhood pictures.
Losing those photographies caused a big sorrow, and added mourning on top of the one I was already experiencing; little by little I had to accept those tangible memories were gone forever, that those stories and colors imprinted on them were just stardust on my mind now.
With Analog Memories I wanted to allow myself to start creating new tangible memories, to be mindful of my surroundings and the things I want to capture, to use the same media my mother used to build all my childhood albums and slowly make my own box of photographies.
This is an ongoing project, as soon as I can get my hands on another analog camera I will continue collecting postcards from our life.
